Ways to Prevent Heart Disease

Atherosclerosis, building of fatty acids and hardening of the arteries, is the major cause of heart disease. These fatty acids build up make the artery narrower. This may trigger blood clot or thrombosis that may completely block the blood flow to and from the heart and can lead to heart attack and other heart problems. Scary, isn’t it? The good news is, following healthy lifestyle can prevent heart disease.

Don’t Smoke

Cigarette’s main ingredient is nicotine. Nicotine stimulates the heart and contricts blood vessels resulting to fatty deposits and blood clots that lead to stroke and heart disease.

Exercise Regularly

Daily exercise reduces the risk of fatal heart disease. It promotes weight loss by reducing body fat. It also reduces tension, stress and anxiety. These negative emotions increase the risk of developing heart disease. Releasing tensions and stress through exercise will prevent heart disease.

Have a Heart-healthy Diet

Eat foods that are low in fat, cholesterol and salt. Too much fats and cholesterol in the blood builds up in the arteries’ wall which slows down or blocked the blood flow while too much salt brings extra strain on the insides of the arteries. Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables instead to prevent heart disease.

Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep can do much more than improving your looks. Studies show that those sleeping fewer than 7 hours a night are at higher risk of developing heart disease by increasing the blood pressure and stress hormone levels.

Have Regular Health Screenings

Without health screenings you wouldn’t know the risk factors you have. Checking the blood sugar level, cholesterol levels and blood pressure will lead to early detection and prevention of diabetes and heart disease.
